Vehicle fire ends with impaired driving charges

Impaired driving charges have been laid against an Aylmer man after a vehicle caught fire in Thames Centre.

Middlesex OPP and firefighters were called to the reported fire on Putnam Road around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday.

While firefighters doused the flames, police conducted a sobriety test on the driver. A 24-year-old Aylmer man was arrested. He has since been charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level above 80 mg per 100 ml of blood.

He is to appear in court in relation to the charges on August 13, police said.

Police did not comment on the suspected cause of the vehicle fire.
