Cyclones' special teams ignite offense

A short handed Listowel Cyclones goal in the second period helped ignite the offense in a 3-2 win over Waterloo in Game 2 of the GOJHL Midwest Cherrey Cup Final.

The Waterloo Siskins opened the scoring Sunday afternoon as Winston Cestnick wired one past Listowel goalie Evan Morrison. Cestnick was able to coral a rolling puck at the face-off dot to the left of Morrison's glove hand and snapped it in for the first goal of the game.

In the second period, Waterloo went on the power play at just over four minutes into the period. But Chayse Herrfort picked up the puck in the neutral zone and went on a rush with Holdyn Lansink. Herrfort slid the puck towards the net and Lansink was able to get a stick on it an it popped over the shoulder of Waterloo's Matt Onuska. Lansink would score his second of the game with just under two minutes left in the period to give Listowel a 2-1 lead.

In the third, Brayden Krieger gave Listowel a 3-1 lead just 2:17 into the frame. Waterloo would press late and Alex Lycett scored with an extra attacker. But time ran out on Waterloo as Listowel won the game 3-2 and tied the series at one.

The teams were a combined o-for-9 on the power play.

Game 3 will be in Listowel Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale Monday night between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex.
