Deputy Premier Deb Matthews Visits Stratford

Ontario Deputy Premier Deb Matthews was in Stratford on Tuesday to meet with a number of local poverty organizations.

The London-area MPP was looking to hear local concerns for her new Poverty Reduction Strategy.

"We're meeting with people here to hear what they are doing locally," Matthews told CKNX News after a tour of the University of Waterloo's Stratford campus. "If we're serious about reducing poverty we need to be working together. There are great initiatives here, and I want to hear more about it [sic]."

Before her tour of the campus, Matthews met with nine mayors from Perth and Wellington counties in St. Marys. The meeting was closed to the public.

"I just wanted to connect with them and hear what is top of mind for advice for the province. They had a lot of advice." Matthews said letting out a chuckle, "We had a really good meeting. If John [Wilkinson] was still MPP here he would have a chance to have meetings like that.

The former Health Minister also met with three new doctors from the Stratford Family Health Team.
