Bruce Power Announce $400K Annual Environmental Fund

Environmental groups in the region will have access to some new funding this year.

Bruce Power has announced the creation of its Environmental and Sustainability Fund, which will award $400,000 annually to projects focused on enhancing the environment.

Vice President of Corporate Affairs James Scongack says the new fund builds on Bruce Power's already successful community sponsorship program.

"This is about creating a fund that is specifically dedicated to environment and sustainability, so we can just make sure we have the right focus in that area and being able to look at these things in a comprehensive way," says Scongack.

A portion of the funds has already been earmarked for this year, but Scongack says they will accept applications on an ongoing basis and won't have a cut-off date. He says applications will be accepted through the Bruce Power website.

Scongack says construction of electric car charging stations in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, as well as a partnership with the Lake Huron Fishing Club are among the projects on the go this year.
