Some Meaford Residents To Wait Another Week For Water

It appears some homeowners in urban Meaford may need to wait another week before they can get back on municipal water lines.

Town workers at the scene of a frozen water main on Collingwood St. said on Thursday that most of the ice in a water main had melted.

Unfortunately, the thawing caused a couple of water main breaks.

Operations manager Steve Vokes says municipal workers repaired one of the ruptures and are working to fix the second one.

“Fortunately we have this break under control," he says. "There’s no gusher, just a steady flow of water which has been directed into a catch basin nearby.”

Vokes said the municipal works crew will likely finish repairing the break by Tuesday.

“Then we’ll have to check the water flow in the main to make sure there are no more breaks,” says Vokes.

If there aren’t any breaks in the main, residents living on Collingwood St. between Cook and Thompson streets will be back using Meaford’s water system by late next week.

Meanwhile, Collingwood St. residents will continue to use water provided through temporary waterlines by the municipality.
