Missing Stratford Man Found After 22 Years

A Stratford man reported missing since 1993 has been found in Ottawa.

Today, the Stratford Police Service says it was able to locate John Zacher, who is now in his 60's.

The Criminal Investigation Division has been following up on tips for 22 years and used age enhancement sketches of Zacher through the years. Two Stratford police detectives were sent to Ottawa over the last three days to follow up the most up to date information and were able to locate Zacher at his one bedroom apartment last night. He had been living under an alias and provided a full statement to police about his disappearance and how he had been living day to day.

"The were able to locate him yesterday afternoon living in basically a one bedroom apartment kinda off the beaten path," Deputy Chief Mike Bellai tells CKNX News. "He voluntarily went with those officers down to the Ottawa police department where they spoke to him and interviewed him."

Zacher had one outstanding arrest warrant held by the Halton Regional Police Service who are returning Zacher to appear in court to answer to the outstanding charges. Police have not said what those charges are.
