New Display Of Victoria Cross At Mount Forest Legion

One of the most prestigious British medals for bravery, the Victoria Cross, is back on display at the Captain Fred Campbell branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Mount Forest.

Campbell won the medal in Europe during the First World War.

The Mount Forest Legion was later named in his honour.

Earlier this year a group of servicemen from Camp Borden were at the Mount Forest Legion and spotted the medal in what they deemed a less than worth display case.

So they were given permission to borrow the medal and Aviator Chris Lalonde of Camp Borden, partly on his own time, researched and built the display case which was unveiled at the Mount Forest Legion Thursday.

"It was a great honour to be a part of something that means so much to a lot of people. Very few people in their military career come in contact with a VC," says Lalonde.

Branch President Kathleen MacRobbie says she is "amazed" at the excellent work that went into the display.
