Minto council has reluctantly turned down a request from the Palmerston Marlins Squirt softball team to stage a toll road event.
While all of council expressed the desire to support the team, councillor Mary-Lou Colwell said it would set a precedent that would bring even more such requests from teams.
Council heard that only groups that are charitable organizations are eligible to operate a toll road.
"We have to be a little careful when we're tying up the roads constantly with tolls," Minto Mayor George Bridge told CKNX News, "It would also affect some of the toll people who have done it for years if we put more in."
Participants in a toll road must be at least 18 years old, while the Palmerston Marlins Squirt team members are eleven and twelve-year-old girls.
