The Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance filed a deficit for last year but has submitted a balanced budget for the current year.
C-E-O Andrew Williams explains hospitals are required to sign an accountability agreement with their Local Health Integration Network and are now legally allowed to file a deficit unless they get waiver.
The Alliance did that for the past fiscal year, but the good news was the deficit that was estimated to be 1.7 million dollars was actually only 1.1 million dollars.
The better news is they have submitted what they expect will be a balanced budget for the current fiscal year.
Williams explains they don't know exactly what they're funding will be for the current year, but based on past year's funding he believes this year's budget will be balanced.
But he adds revenues will be down again this year and that makes it challenging to balance a budget.
