Meaford Considers Outdoor Patios Downtown

There may be more outdoor patios in downtown Meaford to enjoy a meal this summer.

Council's Committee of the Whole is recommending a Sidewalk Patios pilot project.

Planning director Robert Armstrong says introducing street patios would heighten the vibrancy of Meaford’s downtown area and improve the economy.

Permission to set up patios would be valid for this summer only. Council and municipal staff will review the results of the project in the fall.

The Committee of the Whole resolution recommends that Meaford council approve a $200 application fee for each establishment interested in setting up a dining patio.

Armstrong noted that licensed patios on municipally-owned property have become a permanent feature of many downtown areas, including Collingwood and Barrie.
