Central Huron Looks To Raise School On Wheels Revenue

Central Huron councillors are considering a couple of options that might help generate more revenue from the Sloman School Car on Wheels.

The car began delivering education to the far north in 1926 and currently sits on a relatively low-traffic area on Victoria St. in Clinton.

"It's certainly one of the things that people will come to our area to visit," Mayor Jim Ginn tells CKNX News. "There are some concerns as to whether or not it's in the most visible location. So it's either looking at moving it or possibly adding a little more to go with it."

Ginn adds another option would be to build something like a museum or interpretive centre beside the school car.

Ginn explains there is a revenue shortfall at this time so if they could move it or add to the attraction so that it was self-sustaining that would be a bonus and would also help cover some of the cost of maintenance.

Ginn points out that's only going to increase as the school car ages and was also suggested that some kind of covering over the car would help preserve it.
