Easter Seals Ontario is bringing former NHL hockey players to Saugeen Shores.
The Huron Bruce Celebrity Hockey Classic will be held on October 30 at The Plex in Port Elgin and will feature eight local teams raising money to support kids with disabilities.
Development Manager Charlene Myke says they will have a roster of retired NHL talent who will be playing alongside the teams in the tournament, adding they have not yet finalized the list of players who will be participating.
She says they will be hosting a VIP party the night before the tournament, which will feature the participating teams drafting the NHLers to their team.
"Depending on how much money you raise is where you draft, so if you raise the most money, you're drafting first and you'll get any pick of any NHL player that's there to play for your team during the tournament," says Myke.
She says two teams have committed already and they are hoping to add six more, pointing out the Saugeen Shores tournament has raised the most money so far of any of the five tournaments they are hosting across the province.
Myke says they are hoping to raise $125,000 locally, adding only two-percent of money rasied by Easter Seals goes toward administration costs and all other funds go to helping children with disabilities.
