Blood Donors Can Support Leah's Wish And Brianna's Journey

A blood donor clinic and silent auction Monday will support Leah's Wish and Brianna's Journey as part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

15-year-old Leah Vandenbor was diagnosed with leukemia and needed 35 units of blood during her treatment. Leah tragically lost the battle with cancer in 2003.  Her family has has been sponsoring a blood donor clinic and auction for Childcan in Walkerton in her memory for 11 years.   In that time 1820 units of blood have been collected, and $50,000 raised for Childcan

Brianna Lacey was diagnosed with leukemia at four years old, and this year is celebrating the completion of her two years of treatment .

The clinic is being held Monday from 2:30pm to 7:30pm at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall on Hwy. 9.

On average, it can take up to five blood donors to help one child undergoing cancer treatment. It can take up to eight donors a week to help a child with leukemia.
