Future Health Care Funding Discussed in Huron Perth

Health care and the Federal role in the delivery of health care came up for discussion at the most recent Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance meeting.

C-E-O Andrew Williams pointed out health care is primarily a Provincial issue, and while the Federal government does have a role in transfer payments to the Provinces, it is limited.

Williams explains the Health Accord that has been in place expired in 2014.   That agreement provided inflationary increases to transfer payments to the Provinces for health care, but after 2017 the increase to those payments will be pegged at the rate of inflation.

So Williams points out it's not entirely accurate to say the payments are being cut – they're just not increasing at the rate they once were.

Williams adds beyond that health care is primarily a Provincial matter, so the Federal election is not likely to influence health care in any meaningful way.
