Goderich Council Asked For Support For Syrian Refugee Family

A Goderich legal firm has asked for the support, both moral and financial, of town council in bringing a family of refugees from Syria to Goderich.

Quinn Ross of the Ross Firm explained to Goderich council on Monday his firm would help the family navigate through a very complex sponsorship process free of charge.

The law firm would then help facilitate the family's integration into the community by connecting them with the various services they would need.

Ross says the sponsoring group is required to provide funding for the family for at least one year and up to three years.

He adds they've already had community members offer free housing, transportation, education in things like English as a second language and a number of other services.

Ross points out they're still very early in the process and until they know the size of the family they would bring over they won't know their exact costs.

Ross has requested that council match whatever funding they're able to raise through donations.

That request has been passed on to staff to bring a report back to council.
