The Grey Bruce Board Health Unit could have to reduce staff numbers and programs because of a new provincial funding formula.
The Ministry of Health has determined of 36 health units in the province, 28 are over funded, including Grey Bruce. That means no increase in funding for at least four or five years.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn says that will have significant repercussions.
"If this indeed is not revised then we won't get any increase, but of course all of our staff get raises and so we will have to either be way more efficient or not replace people who are leaving or whatever," says Lynn.
With fewer staff, Doctor Lynn says programs will be affected.
She notes the eight health units in the province that are deemed not over funded and will get increases are all in urban areas.
She says the province has not taken into consideration factors like transportation costs in rural areas.
The Board of Health passed a motion to pressure the government to reconsider and revise its new funding measures.
