Hydro Petition Response Disappoints MPP For Perth Wellington

The MPP for Perth Wellington is disappointed with the response the Ontario Government has offered to 50 petitions he presented at the legislature opposing hydro rate increases.

Randy Pettapiece says constituents bills are skyrocketing, and residents want the Liberals to take responsibility. He says the Liberal response shows they are not willing to do that.

The petition called on the government to implement policies to ensure affordable and reliable energy.

Pettapiece says there was overwhelming support with 50 petitions completed with almost 200 signatures.

He says bills have tripled, and the governments own estimates electricity costs will increase by 42 per cent by 2018. And he says the response clarifies plans to continue rate hikes over the next 17 years.

“My constituents’ hydro bills are skyrocketing, and they want the Liberals to take some responsibility,” says Pettapiece. “Even more importantly, they want them to fix the mess they’ve made.

“Today’s response shows that they are willing to do neither,” he added. “To this government, rising energy costs are business as usual... Since the Liberals took office, electricity rates have tripled and hydro bills have skyrocketed 56-percent. It’s completely unacceptable.”
