The Saugeen Shores Refugee Fund aims to raise at least $20,000 to bring a Syrian refugee family to the community.
Local residents have set up a website and a Go Fund Me page to collect donations to do what they can to help people who have been forced to flee from Syria.
Volunteers will be set up at the Chamber of Commerce this weekend to ask for donations from the the crowds visiting the annual Port Elgin Pumpkin Fest.
The Mennonite Central committee is facilitating the plan.
A meeting will be held October 13 at 8pm at the United Church in Port Elgin
Once the money is raised they hope to be able to bring a family to the town within months.
