In Light of Recent Break-ins, Police Offer Tips

South Bruce OPP are offering residents some tips on avoiding becoming the victim of crime in light of some recent break-ins.

Police suggest you keep landscaping groomed so would-be thieves can't hide their activity behind high shrubs and trees.

You should always lock your doors and windows even if you are leaving for a short time.

Have someone shovel your snow or cut your grass if you are going to be away so it looks like someone is home.

Make sure outside lights are working.

Get to know your neighbours and watch for suspicious people or activity.

Don't leave valuables in plane sight and have them engraved so they can be easily identified by police.

Don't leave a spare key hidden outside.

Police also remind people not to announce your absence on social media or by leaving a message to that effect on your answering machine or voicemail.

If you see suspicious activity you should report it to police as soon as possible so an officer can investigate.
