Goderich council has approved a scaled-down expansion of the Maitland Valley Medical Centre.
Mayor Kevin Morrison explains the original proposal had a price tag of over $5-million.
He says they decided to downsize after considering Provincial funding cutbacks and how many doctors would actually be allowed in the area.
Morrison points the revised proposal will be about one-third of the original expansion but adds that's all that's really needed at this time.
The cost has been reduced to about $1.6-million which will be covered from reserves as well as fundraising over the next 10 years.
Morrison also points out there will be room for some physicians in the new pharmacy across the street from the hospital.
Morrison says they hope to start construction on the expansion this spring.
