The Sustainable Huron Steering Committee has identified a new set of priorities.
The committee includes representation from a wide variety of organizations that address social, economic and environmental issues.
Spokesperson Scott Tousaw explains sustainability planning looks at projects that meet at the intersection of those three spheres.
In the environmental section, they include things like eco-system health and municipal energy conservation.
On the economic side, there's increased marketing in Huron County and enhancing the cultural sector; on the societal side, it's about healthy kids, shared transportation, and locally produced food.
The list of priorities will soon be presented to Huron County for approval. From there, various community groups are approached to look after the implementation.
Tousaw adds the consultation process and the support from county council demonstrates that the organizations have done their homework and makes it easier for community groups to get funding for the programs.
