Shoreline Management Plan Runs Into Opposition

A Bluewater resident who lives along the Lake Huron shoreline has raised some objections to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's Shoreline Management Plan.

Ron Overholt is critical of the timing of the request for public input because many shoreline residents have gone for the winter.

His main concern is that the Shoreline Management Plan prevents shoreline property owners from protecting their property.

Overholt contends the ABCA deliberately puts obstacles - like requirements for different engineering reports and surveys - so that property owners run out of patience or money and give up on getting permits for preventative measures on their property.

He adds he's been told that ABCA's position is that erosion is needed to carry sand down to the beaches in places like Grand Bend and the Pinery.
