Wellington County Warden George Bridge will chair the Western Ontario Warden's Caucus Economic Development Committee.
The committee was set up in the wake of the dissolution of the South Western Economic Alliance.
“Warden Bridge is an excellent choice,” says Western Warden's Chair Randy Hope. “His background in the financial industry and his current responsibilities in the economic development of Wellington County will provide focus and leadership for this new initiative.”
The committee will put together an economic development strategy.
It will approach mayors of separated cities including Stratford, St. Marys, Guelph, St. Thomas, Brantford, London, Barrie, Orillia and Windsor to create an economic alliance partnership.
They'll be invited early in the new year to discuss a rural urban caucus structure to allow for collaborative partnerships in infrastructure, finance, technology, and regulatory challenges.
“I am honoured to have been chosen to lead this important committee,” says Bridge. “I look forward to the process, meeting with all of the mayors and helping return economic prosperity to Southwestern Ontario."
Bridge is also the mayor of Minto.
Bridge spent 30 years with TD Canada Trust before he retired as branch manager in Midland and moved back to Harriston.
