The Economic Development Adviser for Huron County's Economic Development Board has presented a draft strategic plan to the board.
Ron Gaudet says they're focussing on seven segments of the economy; including things like farming, manufacturing, and health care. The emphasis is on small business and creating an entrepreneurial climate, working with the existing business base and looking at how to bring new investment into the county.
Gaudet adds one of the challenges for several of the sectors is finding employees - skilled or otherwise - so there has to be an effort to educate residents about what is available, and encourage workers from outside of the county who have the skills that don't exist here to considering Huron County.
Gaudet adds there has to be some effort to develop more value-added products, and not just in agriculture, but also in the manufacturing sector that supplies the agricultural industry with things like specialized tools and machinery.
Gaudet points out the draft strategic plan is still missing input from the partner municipalities.
