The County of Perth has named Meredith Schneider as the new warden at a ceremony in Stratford this morning.
Schneider is a councillor from North Perth who will replace Bob Wilhelm after running unopposed.
The event was held at the Griffith Auditorium just around the corner from where Schneider will facilitate council meetings during the next twelve months.
“I'm not in here to change the whole setup or nothing like that," he says. "I'm here to work with everybody and hopefully keep Perth-County a real nice place to live.”
Schneider wants to see an increase in the amount of locally produced foods available to county residents as one of his priorities in the coming year.
After the ceremony, Schneider took the time to thank former warden Bob Wilhelm.
“He's done an excellent job as warden," says Schneider. "Everything just seems to coordinate for him and I hope I can do that to. That everything just runs together and there's no problems.”
Schneider attributes his interest in politics to his great grandfather who was passionate about local politics but never participated himself.
