A proposed merger of the Huron and Perth County health units has been put on hold.
Huron County Health Board Chair Tyler Hessel says several health boards across the province raised concerns about a new proposed funding formula for health boards, and the ministry is taking a second look at that formula.
Hessel explains at this point it would be difficult to move ahead with a merger without knowing what the funding formula was and how it might impact both Huron and Perth in the event of a merger.
Hessel adds the pause in the process does give both health units a chance to review they work they've done so far to identify what improvements in service would be achieved through a merger.
The Huron and Perth Health Boards have been working on a possible merger for almost a year now.
A recent proposed amalgamation of the EMS services was shot down by both councils, after a study found there would be no benefit to merging.
