Goderich Continues Search for Land Fill Alternative

The town of Goderich has ruled out several possibilities, once the Mid-Huron Land Fill Site closes this time next year.

Mid-Huron will reach capacity by the end of 2016 or early in 2017.

Three of the municipalities using the site have viable alternatives after that happens; but Goderich, Central Huron and Huron East do not.

Goderich C-A-O Larry McCabe presented some options to council last night, including going to a transfer station, but ruled that out because the tonnage would not justify the cost.

McCabe adds they've known for some time the Mid-Huron site would reach capacity by the end of next year, so they still have time to find an alternative.

He plans to meet with the other two municipalities to look at what will work for residents as well as contractors going forward.
