Goderich council is ready to start negotiations with a developer who's interested in putting up a hotel and conference centre on the former Victoria Street Public School property.
Council went into a closed meeting lsat night, and emerged with the announcement that they would meet with the developers and hopefully come to an agreement on price.
Mayor Kevin Morrison explains their plan is to construct a sixty to sixty-five room hotel with a conference centre, restaurant and an indoor swimming pool on three to four acres of the 9.8-acre property.
Morrison adds another hotel is going up in the Kincardine area and it's time one was built to meet the needs of the Goderich area.
Morrison adds there's still room on the property for something like affordable housing or a long-term care facility.
