Fire investigators along with Wellington County OPP continue to probe the cause of a Boxing Day fire that destroyed a triplex residence in Harriston on Saturday afternoon.
According to OPP, they received a call shortly after 12pm to report a building fully engulfed in flames on Elora St. North.
One witness tells CKNX News there were lots of people standing along the street watching the commotion as police began closing streets and fire crews from several local departments arrived on scene.
"They had Harriston, Palmerston, Clifford and North Perth had their aerial truck there," says local neighbour and Harriston resident, Carl Conway.
Wellington County OPP were forced to close a number streets to traffic in the Highway 9 & Highway 89 area for several hours.
According to Conway, three residents lived in the building but two of them were not home at the time of the fire.
"One of them was an older lady, she was home but she was able to get out; her place was more or less water damaged at that side, it started in the second floor and the whole top half's done for and the first floor's done too it's all heavily smoke damaged and water damaged," adds Conway.
It's still not clear at this time just what may have started the blaze and investigators continue to look into possible causes.
There were no injuries reported.
