Huron County CAO Reflects On 2015 Planning

Huron County politicians spent a lot of time in 2015 planning for the future.

They started in the spring by working with an external consultant on a strategic plan.

CAO Brenda Orchard says the plan involved an internal review of the operations.

"We hired Gord McIntosh to come in and work with council in the spring time and we also invited him back in the fall. So, we did an internal service review where we looked at all of the operations of all of our county departments and where could we see improvements, what should we keep doing, what should we change," she says.

That was later expanded to include a shared-services review with the nine lower-tier municipalities, with a view to optimizing services as well as saving money.

"We were really pleased that the nine lower tiers were willing to undergo that process with us so that we could look at ways to optimize and perhaps save money. So, to me that's one of the big accomplishments of the year and I hope that shared service review bares fruit years moving forward," says Orchard.

Orchard adds creating the county Economic Development Board completed a busy year of planning and re-structuring.
