Users of the Bayfield Arena are getting together to form a committee to take a look at the long-term future of the facility.
Bayfield ward Councillor Bill Whetstone will sit on the committee but he stresses that will be as a resident, not a member of council. Whetstone explains the users of the arena realize there will be some capital costs in the near and long-term future and there isn't a lot of money available to address those costs.
He also says the expectations of users of the facility are changing and so they're looking at things like a walking track, basketball courts and conference rooms. The other thing to consider is whether the facility would be better run by a public group rather than the municipality.
Whetstone says they'll have their first meeting later this month and hopefully come up with some suggestions and to track what costs might be associated with those ideas and where the money will come from.
