Winter Takes Foothold in Midwestern Ontario This Week

It's a good day to scrape down your driveway, lane, or sidewalk, and pick up a few extra groceries, because we could be ankle-deep in snow by tomorrow morning, and knee-deep by Thursday.

A strong northwest wind is expected to bring snow squall activity inland from Lake Huron, beginning this afternoon.

Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are possible by tomorrow morning.   The steady snow and blowing snow will create dangerous whiteout conditions in some areas overnight and tomorrow morning.

And after that, there's the potential for another 10-15 cms through the day Wednesday and into Thursday.

There is a Snow Squall Watch in effect for late today and tonight for parts of Bruce, Grey, Wellington, and northern Huron and Perth counties.   That may be upgraded to a Snow Squall Warning later today and extended to a wider area.

Some school bus companies and school boards in Huron, Perth, northern Wellington and southern Bruce counties cancelled bus pickups for students this morning, because of the threat of stormy weather later today.
