The Municipality of Meaford will soon have its own coat of arms, and eventually a new chain of office for the mayor.
Meaford’s Committee of the Whole voted this week to ask council to approve the final design for the coat of arms.
The artists' concept is mainly the work of members of a nine-person committee, with suggestions from residents. The committee held a series of drop-in sessions last fall to hear from the public.
The design is being sent to the Canadian Heraldic Authority for final artwork. The final coat of arms design will then be returned to Meaford for a public unveiling.
Council will also start a design program for a new chain of office for the mayor to wear at council and other public occasions.
It would replace the chain of office worn by mayors of the former town of Meaford.
