In the mid 90s a very dedicated community group in Goderich started raising funds to get a dialysis machine in the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich.
Spokesperson John Grace explains at that time, 12 Goderich and area residents were having to drive to London three time a week to get treatment. Grace says they succeeded in getting a dialysis machine in Goderich around 2001.
But he adds it's time to upgrade and enhance that equipment and so they launched a 100-day campaign yesterday with a goal of raising $125,000.
The campaign is off to a great start with a $24,000 donation from the Goderich Knights of Columbus and a $5,000 donation from the Goderich Catholic Women's League announced at the hospital yesterday.
