Grey County Building Expansion

Grey County Council has taken the next step in getting an addition put on to its administration building in Owen Sound.

Council has seen the architect's drawings and voted to proceed with putting the project out to tender.

The $11.9 million addition will about double the size of the current building that went up in 1959.

Warden Al Barfoot says they're running out of space and a new facility is much needed.

"Customer service is our business as government. We're not doing that to the best of ability because of the facility that we're working out of so by redoing this building and having all of the services here then we will be able to do that for our customers," said Barfoot in an interview after Tuesday's County Council meeting.

The new Grey County building will incorporate the Provincial Offences Court as well as economic development and tourism offices which are currently at Grey Roots museum.

The addition will go on the front of the current structure.

Barfoot says the next step is for county council to review the costs when the tender estimates come in.

If all goes well the shovel could be in the ground in the spring of next year.
