Harriston Historical Society Working Hard

The Harriston Historical Society wants to continue marking historical buildings and sites, despite the fact the province has cancelled funding for the project.

Society spokesman Mark MacKenzie say almost 100 homes have been given a marker. In addition, four locations have been marked with large metal signs, including the Palmerston Walkway Bridge and the Harriston home of Dr. John Gerald Fitzgerald.

Minto Council was receptive to the idea of helping the historical society continue with its work.

The Harriston Historical Society is also raffling off a painting of Davey Swinton’s BA Gas Bar and Mary’s Ice Cream Stand as part of its fundraising events in 2016.

MacKenzie says 2015 was a busy year for the historical society and 2016 is shaping up to be the same, including a talk next week by Minto's own world plowing competitor, Carman Weppler.

The talk by Carman Weppler will be at the Harriston Library on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:30pm.
