Goderich welcomes a family of three Syrian refugees on Sunday.
Welcome Project Syria spokesman Quinn Ross says they arrive in Montreal today from Beirut, and will spend two nights being processed through immigration.
Ross says the orientation team will pick them up in Toronto, and bring them home.
The parents are in their mid 20s and their daughter is 3. Zaher Alchbli, Batoul Almussa, and their daughter Abeer Alchbli fled from a rural area in Syria.
The mother was involved in agriculture and was a homemaker while the father was in construction.
The family will be offered privacy and space as a team of volunteers ensures they settle in successfully.
Ross says they will ensure the family receives doctor, dental, and eye check ups.
The team will ensure the family will be set up financially, and that their household needs are met.
They'll arrive to a full pantry, and an Education team will connect them to English as a Second Language courses and supports.
A transportation team, a recreation team and a home maintenance team will also offer assistance.
There is no word when a second family will be matched to Goderich.
The community helped raise $30,000 for the project, and further fundraising events are planned to help support this family, and another family the group hopes to bring to Goderich.
Mark March 19 on the calendar for the GimmeShelter concert (Livery Theater Goderich) and April 16 for the Syrian dinner (Knox Church).
Donations of clothing and cheques are still welcome at the office at Knox Goderich.
