Acting Fire Chief Dave Renner says they were called to Fansville Line at Hwy. 84 between Zurich and Hensall about 9:15am.
He says the barn was fully involved, so it was a defensive approach.
Renner adds the barn collapsed shortly after they arrived.
That covered up the flames and put the fire out of reach. 1,000 pigs died in the blaze, but there were no other injuries.
The man was charged in March with sexual assault offences.
Both couples won in the April 11 draw.
