Huron Warden Sees Benefits in Broadband Project

Huron County's Warden says council is going to have to make a decision in the very near future regarding Huron's participation in the SWIFT project to bring broadband service to all of Southwestern Ontario.

Paul Gowing explains the feeling of some councillors is that Huron can't afford not to be in.  But Gowing also points out there are two key issues that have to be resolved before Huron County commits to the project.

One is whether the SWIFT project will deliver what Huron County is looking for --  and that's service to the last mile or the most remote homes.   The other is the degree to which local service providers will be involved in delivering the service.

The local provider's Association has submitted a list of questions to the SWIFT committee but they're still waiting for answers.

Gowing explains local providers have spent a lot of time and money in providing service in Huron County, so council feels they should also be involved in the SWIFT project in Huron County.
