Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board passed a motion Tuesday night that will allow Huron County parents to register their children as late as March 8 for French immersion in Stratford.
The motion also made no provision for transportation other than an existing bus stop at the Sebringville Community Centre.
An earlier motion to introduce a two-year pilot French Immersion program in Goderich was defeated.
Dana Morgenroth, a spokesperson for Huron County Parents for French Immersion, says 21 Goderich parents were committed to a French immersion program in Goderich, but were not interested in travelling to a program in Clinton, so they would not be interested in sending their children to Stratford.
Some of the trustees argued that a Goderich French immersion program was not sustainable. The lack of teachers and class room space in Goderich were also concerns for the trustees.
Morgenroth says the battle is over for now.
