Provincial Heritage Award For Owen Sound Man

An Owen Sound man's efforts to preserve the past are being recognized with a prestigious honour.

Bob Alexander has been awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The 85-year-old has volunteered at Grey County museums for over 25 years. He's particularly interested in antique cars and played an important role in building a period garage on-site and moving it to the new Grey Roots Museum and Archives site in 2005. Museum staff nominated him for the honour.

Alexander says winning the award came as a surprise.

"It kind of makes me feel that what I've done and am doing out there is worthwhile. It's preserving something of the past," says Alexander.

Grey Roots Museum Manager Petal Furness says thanks to Bob Alexander's efforts, Grey Roots and local cultural and historical communities in Grey County are much stronger.

Alexander and family members will travel to Queen's Park Friday for the awards ceremony.
