OPP: Give Snowplows More Room

The OPP in Perth County are concerned that certain drivers are not giving snowplows the proper respect they deserve.

Two separate collisions last Friday involved snowplows.

Shortly after 6:00 last Friday morning, a tractor trailer travelling south on Highway 7 between Stratford and St. Marys met a north bound snowplow. The tractor trailer driver lost control of his vehicle and sideswiped the plow.  The tractor trailer ended up in a field beside the highway; the plow was able to stop on the east shoulder.   There were no major injuries.

The tractor trailer driver was charged with "failing to share half the road when meeting a vehicle".

Later that same morning, there was a collision north of Listowel on Line 87 involving a pickup truck and a snowplow.   The plow was west bound, while the pickup was eastbound. The driver of the pickup lost control and slid into the front blade of the plow.   Neither driver was injured.

The OPP are reminding drivers that when you encounter a plow coming from the opposite direction, move as far to the right from the centreline of the roadway as you safely can.

And when you see the blue flashing lights of a snowplow ahead of you, remain a safe distance back and don't attempt to pass a plow.
