Huron County Council Endorses Broadband Service Application

Huron County councillors have endorsed the application by the Huron County Co-operatives for federal funding to help bring broadband service to Huron County.

Huron County Warden Paul Gowing points out the situation in Huron County differs from that in many of the other Southwestern Ontario counties in that the issue in Huron is getting service to the last mile or the most remote homes in the county.

He believes the project being proposed by the association of local providers in Huron, with the help of funding from the Small Communities Fund, addresses that need.

Gowing adds while he does not believe the Western Warden's proposed project does address the last mile concern, he believes Huron County should continue to be active in that program as well, because he believes it does have other benefits for Huron County.

The concern expressed by Huron County councillors in the past is that much of the focus of the Western Warden's SWIFT program would be on extending service to many of the counties in southwestern Ontario.  But Huron County already has that, through local providers.
