Grey Bruce Schools Receive Mental Health Support

The Canadian Mental Health Association will expand services in Grey Bruce schools thanks to a $325,000 Trillium Foundation grant.

The area branch has already been going into schools providing mental health programs, but on an irregular basis.

The grant allows coordinator Jackie Ralph to hire two more staff and go into more schools to help kids cope with things like self esteem, bullying and depression.

She says the program raises awareness of mental health issues.

"Having a mental health check up should be just as normal as going to the dentist. If every person believed that and thinks that then we can literally, potentially remove stigma associated with doing those things," says Ralph.

Ten schools a year over three years will be selected by the Bluewater School Board to receive the services.
