Perth OPP Busy Over Long Easter Weekend

Perth County OPP answered over 90 calls related to the ice, wind and rain over the Easter Weekend.

Officers responded to a large number of downed hydro lines and tree limbs, and well as alarms, and a weather related collision.

In all, officers responded to five minor collisions, similar to last year's crash count. Prior to that, Perth county saw an average of 18 collisions on Easter weekend.

Easter Weekend usually brings out more traffic and more family disputes.

Two drivers were charged with distracted driving.

Officers issued 166 speeding tickets, with three motorists exceeding the speed limit by over 50 km/hr.

All three drivers had their driver’s licences suspended for a week, in addition their vehicles were towed from the scenes and have been impounded for seven days.

There were 11 miscellaneous Highway Traffic Act charges, and six insurance charges.

“I am very satisfied with the low numbers of collisions during a period in which we statistically see high numbers. The directed and targeted patrols by our officers resulted in safer Perth County roads for all road users this long weekend. It is my hope that these low collision numbers will continue throughout the spring and summer”. Inspector Rob Scott, Detachment Commander Perth County OPP
