Bayfield Begins Clean Up After Flooding Issues

Several homes, a convenience store and restaurant in Bayfield are dealing with flooding damage.

Mayor Tyler Hessel explains the lightning that hit the panel of the pumping station for the Bayfield sewers early Monday caused some serious flooding problems in the village.   Several homes on Sarnia St. had flooded basements and the Bayfield Convenience Store and Renegades Restaurant were also flooded.

A co-owner of the Renegades Restaurant says they expect to be closed for the next three weeks.

Wayne McDougall says flooring throughout the restaurant will have to be replaced and all of the drywall and cupboards up to about one foot above the floor will also have to be replaced.

The lightning struck very early Monday morning and Hessel says because it was so early, most people didn't know there was a problem at first and continued to use the system, and that contributed to the flooding.  McDougall adds insurance will cover the damage but not any of the contents in the restaurant.
