Charity in Perth-Huron is alive and well as far as the United Way is concerned. The organization unveiled its fundraising progress last night in Stratford at their second annual Spirit of Community celebration.
Their campaign has raised almost $1.2-million in its first year, which puts them on pace to reach their long term goal of $4-million over three years.
Executive Director Ryan Erb shared his thoughts regarding the milestone event at the dinner last night.
"We’ve set a high benchmark because frankly the need is there," he says. "We’ve had more applications for funding, more requests for funding than ever before and it just represents that our community in some ways is struggling. There’s a lot of good things that go on in Perth and Huron, one of the best places you could ever live in, at the same time there are many people in our community as our living wage report that we put out last year announced, about half the people in our community frankly don’t have enough to make ends meet."
Community members shared stories to illustrate how the United Way has contributed to dozens of local organizations that change lives for the better.
