Passenger Charged in Fatal Van Buggy Crash in Grey Highlands

A passenger has been charged in connection with a fatal crash on Highway 10 in Grey Highlands that resulted in the death of a five year old girl.

20 year old Alex Silk of Belleville was a passenger in the mini van, and is charged with one count of criminal negligence causing death and three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The mini van collided with a horse drawn carriage carrying nine people about 9:30 Sunday morning.

5-year-old Melinda Bowman of Grey Highlands was pronounced dead at hospital.

A 26 year old woman from Southgate was airlifted to a Toronto hospital, where she is in critical condition.  She was also a passenger in the buggy.

The remaining seven occupants of the buggy were treated at hospital and released.

The 60-year-old driver of the mini van and a passenger were treated for minor injuries.

The OPP investigation continues.
