Wellington county Council has voted to expand waste and recyclable collection to all rural households, and charge higher fees for waste disposal.
Warden George Bridge says rural collection will allow all residents to access curbside services with a convenient end of driveway option.
He hopes households will recycle as much as possible, which will help extend the life of the landfill site.
A phone survey by Oraclepoll Research found 84% of residents supported the expanded services .
Starting July 1st, large user pay garbage bags will cost 25 cents more at $2.00. and smaller bags will go up to $1.50 from $1.00.
The user fees are expected to offset the additional cost of expanded rural collection which starts July 1st.
Homes will receive two large blue boxes and instructions in late May or early June.
