The Rotary Club of Meaford and the organizers of the Annual Quilt Exhibition at Meaford United Church were singled out for special honours this week.
Mayor Barb Clumpus presented Certificates of Appreciation from the Municipality to Phil Cant and Beth Boyes, on behalf of their organizations.
Cant is the president of the Rotary Club of Meaford while Boyes is the chair of the Meaford United Church Quilt Exhibition group.
Mayor Clumpus began the presentation by giving a brief history of the local Rotary Club from 1937 when it received its charter. She listed the many contributions of the club to the community, include the Rotary Pavilion at Meaford Harbour.
Over the years, Meaford Rotary members have raised $355,000 for the community. Their most recent contribution was $5,000 toward the Syrian Refugee Settlement program.
Over the past 25 years, the Meaford United Church Quilt Exhibition has drawn thousands of people to the area to view and buy the hundreds of quilts displayed in the church.
These quilts, Clumpus said, represent the work of a great number of talented craft people from the Meaford area.
